FAQ

What is Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT)?

Dance/Movement Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses movement to help individuals achieve emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration in their lives. Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapists (BC-DMT) are Ph.D and Master’s psychotherapists and counsellors who have completed over 400 hours of graduate training in DMT Theory and Practice, Movement Observation and in DMT Group Process.  They also complete over 3500 hours of supervised clinical practice.  For more information on Dance/Movement Therapy, please see the American Dance Therapy Association at www.adta.org

Do I need dance training or art classes?

No previous training in dance, movement, or art is required for this group.  Use of the expressive arts in our group will be based on the experience of the movement/dance and the process of the art making and writing.  All levels of experience are welcome.

What can I expect from the group?

This group uses the expressive arts of movement, dance, artmaking, and writing to re-vision the workplace and parenting fatigue that so often lead to burnout, loss of vitality and loss of meaning in one’s life.  We’ll explore the impact of incomplete stress cycles and the  importance of meaningful support and connection to recuperate and replenish our energy stores.

What do I need to bring?

We will supply art supplies for each session.  If you would like to have your own personal supplies, please consider bringing pastels, watercolor paint and brushes, and perhaps scissors and a glue stick.  Please also bring a cushion on which to sit, a water bottle, a journal and pen, and wear clothing that you find easy to move in.

How do I register?

Please complete the registration form above.  Sandra will reach out to you prior to our first session to welcome you to the group and answer any additional questions you have.  Payment for the group can be made by e-transfer to sandra@sandrabeggs.com . Payment must be made at registration.

Can I register at the door?

Pre-registration is required due to the nature of the group.  Please register in advance.  If that is not possible, for some reason, please email at sandra@sandrabeggs.com .

Is there a refund policy?

A full refund is available 3 days before the group starts.  After the first session, a partial refund is available.  No refund will be provided after the second session. Refunds will be issued by e-transfer.
